Welcome to your February edition of Bluestones Medical Compliance newsletter. Last month we provided you with an update on the importance of NMC/HCPC checks and revalidation. We hope you found this useful.

This month we will aim to provide useful information on the following subjects:

  • Bluestones Training Academy
  • Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF)
  • The importance of DBS update service payments
  • Compliance reminders

Bluestones Training Academy

In September 2018 Bluestones Medical joined forces with Key Training Academy to be able to offer our workers a variety of clinical training courses. We had a very successful 6 months of training with most of our courses full to capacity. We are currently in the process of launching more dates over the next 6 months covering the following:

  • ILS and BLS
  • NG and PEG Management
  • Airway Management and Tracheostomy Care
  • Catheterisation
  • Medicines Management
  • IV Medication, Venepuncture & Cannulation

Further information will be available in the next few weeks. Please keep a look out and call any member of our team to book on any of the courses. Best of all the training is free and we don’t charge for certificates!!

Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF)

You may have heard about the Core Skills Training Framework when speaking to the compliance team about updating your training.

What is it?

With a highly mobile workforce, agencies are able to accept previous training undertaken. Where information is lacking, people can repeat training unnecessarily, wasting time and money.

The statutory/mandatory CSTF addresses this issue. It allows employers to recognise statutory/mandatory training to a standard, trust that information and reduce duplication of training. Launched in 2013, the statutory/mandatory CSTF is maintained and updated by Skills for Health.

When booking training independently please ensure that your training is aligned to CSTF

What are the benefits of Statutory/mandatory CSTF?

  • Provides national benchmark for training
  • Sets minimum learning outcome and frequency of training
  • Accepted by any healthcare employer in the UK including NHS and independent healthcare providers

The importance of DBS update service payments

As you are probably aware the DBS update service provides candidates with a service which allows your DBS certificate to effectively become portable. This basically means that if a payment of £13 is paid and maintained on an annual basis your DBS will remain current and active. The benefits of this are:

  • YOU save time and money
  • YOU can take your DBS certificate from role to role (if within the same workforce, where the same type and level of check is required)
  • Employers can carry out instant online checks on DBS certificates that are linked to your subscription

It is very important to remember to pay the annual £13 fee on time each year. The compliance team will always send you a reminder at least 30 days prior to the due date.

Compliance Reminders

The compliance team works hard day in day out to keep as many candidates as possible compliant to enable you all to continue to be offered shifts with us. We will send you reminders 30 days before anything is due to expire. This includes DBS payments, online training, practical training, and occupational health checks.

As always, we are always here to guide and support you.

Thanks for your continued hard work 😊
